Hello! My name is Eileen Foley.
I help people who struggle with their alcohol and drug use to find the best way forward in their lives. I also support families to overcome the anxiety and overwhelm they feel when coping with someone’s alcohol and drug use.

I believe that people have an inner strength that they are sometimes unaware of, so when they work with me I show them they are the experts in their lives and support them to find the solutions that best suits them.

About Me

In 2008 I decided to train as an addiction counsellor and graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree is addiction counselling. Since then I have experienced many other counselling approaches including; cognitive behavioural therapy, motivational interviewing and solution focused therapy. I work in private practice in Kerry since 2011 and I also provide a nationwide online counselling service. I am accredited with the Addiction Counsellors of Ireland and also adhere to their code of ethics. As part of my continued professional development I attend regular supervision, workshops and training which allows me to keep well-informed of latest information. My approach to counselling is person-centred, based on empathy, acceptance and respect for each client and where they are in life’s journey. I provide a non-judgmental and confidential place where clients can explore their concerns and support to empower them to find their own solutions.

My Story

My journey and interest in addiction counselling began with I realised how affected I had become by someone else's addiction. I felt miserable, powerless and frustrated at what was happening in my life. I had long stopped listening to my gut instincts and was ignoring my needs and happiness. I reached my 30th birthday feeling very lost, alone and confused. So, in all the chaos I decided to take back control of my life and get to know myself. I read, talked, joined support groups and learnt all I could. Today I am still leaning! The truth is if I hadn’t gone through all that I wouldn’t be where I am now.

How can I help you

If you feel like no matter what you’ve tried isn't working and you can’t figure out what to do next then I can support you in finding the answers. How do I know I can do this, well I have been there, done that and I survived! I am passionate about supporting concerned family members and provide a family support counselling service that is tailor made to your needs. Maybe you are feeling stressed, lonely, worried and unsure about what you can do. Do you find you are so preoccupied or worried about your loved one you are unable to concentrate on day to day things? Perhaps you are afraid of being judged? Do you want to know how to cope and support your family member?

Through working with me you will learn to:
Understand substance abuse and addiction on a deeper level.
Take the focus off your family member and bring it back to yourself.
Identify your enabling behaviours so that you can make different choices.
Have healthy boundaries. Yes means Yes, No means No!
Know your limits. Identify what behaviours you are unwilling to accept.
Realise that you didn’t cause the addiction and you can’t control or fix it.
Gain a deeper understanding of your needs and who you are.
Identify anxiety causing triggers and learn how to manage them.

I provide a safe and confidential place where you can explore your concerns, ask questions and get support so you can move forward in your life.

Testimonials

Eileen is a qualified addiction counsellor and recovery coach. She is a straight talking professional with a deep and sincere empathy with the patient that is suffering from the disease of addiction, the family members who have loved ones in addiction, colleagues , friends and all concerned persons. She is experienced counsellor and employs the most up to date techniques in helping all stakeholders to get to the root cause of the issues associated with addictions , including the physical, mental, behavioural consequences always providing a clear pathway of options and choices to all who are looking for sustainable solutions. I have referred many people to Eileen over the years and she has a very inexpensive care plan that will provide each individual with the space and time needed to look at what is going wrong in ones life and more importantly with the necessary life coping mechanisms to implement a customised and individualised recovery plan. I commend Eileen for the work she carries out with understanding, a great sense of clarity and with the client very much at the centre of her focus.

On a doctors recommendation, I booked a session with Eileen. I was very skeptical as I had been to counselling before with mixed results. Eileen was very professional and friendly and saw me just days after I contacted her. She gave me some good insights and tools to help me address the problems that I was facing. I would highly recommend Eileen.

Client/ Female

Eileen is a wonderful professional. She is warm and approachable, and as a fellow counsellor, I am so grateful to have her to refer clients to who need her specialist input. Addictions affect families as well as the individual, and Eileen offers a great service and support through her work.
